Welcome to Freie Hochschule Stuttgart
The Freie Hochschule Stuttgart offers courses of studies in preparation for the different teaching professions in Waldorf Schools.
In over 1000 Waldorf Schools throughout the world (200 of them in Germany) teachers create a space for learning and living so that their pupils can develop in harmony with their growth and capacities, and in which they can unfold their individual abilities in order to become self-confident human beings. It is our aim to prepare students for the various matriculation examinations without impairing the development of their individual creativity.
300 students from all over the world apply themselves every day to mastering the skills and deepen their understanding of an approach to education that serves the future. To contribute to this goal, The Freie Hochschule Stuttgart offers the following courses:
- College paths of study
- Consecutive bachelor and master course "class and subject teacher at Waldorf Schools":
The consecutive course is a comprehensive course of studies. The bachelor course takes three years, the master course another two years. - The Master course "class and subject teacher at Waldorf Schools":
This course is a postgraduate course for those who have already completed a teacher training. This course takes two years but can be completed in 18 months, depending on previous experience and qualifications. - The Master course "upper school teacher at Waldorf Schools":
This course is a postgraduate course for those who have completed an academic course of studies in a school subject. This course takes 18 months. - Bachelor of Eurythmy (with Foundation in Pedagogy)
(in association with the Eurythmeum Stuttgart). Duration: 4 years - Masters in Pedagogical Eurythmy (consecutive course)
(in association with the Eurythmeum Stuttgart). Duration: 1 year - Requirements for the studies:
- General qualification for university entrance or specific baccalaureate or comparable degree
- Admission may also be granted on the basis of specific regulations or by probation.
For the non-consecutive class teacher course:
- Completed academic teacher training (1. Staatsexamen) or academic course of studies in one of the school subjects of the class teacher.
For the upper school teacher course:
- Completed academic course of studies in a school specific subject.
Rules for exceptions apply as at State Colleges.
- Consecutive bachelor and master course "class and subject teacher at Waldorf Schools":
- Seminar courses
- Admission to the seminar course of studies "class and subject teacher at Waldorf Schools" is for those with advanced technical college entrance qualification or for those who have the General Certificate of Secondary Education as well as professional education and work experience. A course of studies in preparation for becoming a Waldorf teacher is also possible. Please enquire for further details. The programme lasts between two and five years.
- Subject teacher courses are available for foreign languages, needlework, horticulture (gardening), fine arts, music, sports and crafts. A specific college degree or a completed professional training is required.
All courses are run on a full-time basis.
The language of instruction is German.
Recognition of our degrees: The Freie Hochschule Stuttgart has been recognised by the State as a "Wissenschaftliche Hochschule" since 1999. The degrees we offer entitle our graduates to teach in every German State and also in schools abroad. However, please enquire regarding your specific circumstances as the regulations in certain states and countries are subject to change.
