Frequently Asked Questions

You will need to have a Bachelors Degree or an equivalent to attend the course. If you have 210 (ECTS) credits or the equivalent you can begin in February 2018 and complete the course in three semesters. With extensive previous Waldorf training and sufficient teaching experience, it may be possible to complete the course of studies in one year.

The Bachelor's Degree has to be in a subject that is in a field related to a school subject.

This will be evaluated on a case to case basis. As this is a graduate degree for class and subject teachers you will need to have accumulated a certain number of credit points in an academic context to be considered. Under certain conditions it may also be possible to accept students who have not fully completed their initial college or university studies.

We are looking for applicants who bring those social and pedagogical qualities such as empathy and enthusiasm which are necessary for teaching children and young people. Moreover, we are looking for applicants who have both a serious interest in Anthroposophy and Waldorf Education, as well as a willingness to engage actively in the arts as a crucial aspect of their personal and professional development.

Our Master of Arts Degree is fully accredited in Germany. This generally means that it will be recognised throughout the world. However, since each country has its own regulations and requirements regarding teaching licences, we cannot guarantee that this degree will be sufficient to get a teaching licence in every country.

We will be using the same modules that we use in our accredited German programme. The ministry that is responsible for our accreditation has accepted that we will now be offering this programme in English. In fact, they have very much encouraged us to do so.

Yes, depending on need there will be partial scholarships available. However, since we will be attracting students from all over the world, including students from third world countries who are generally dependent on extensive support, our possibilities to offer financial aid will be limited.

We will be glad to assist you in finding a place to live. There are also a limited number of places in our own student housing.

No, you don't need to know German beforehand, although we suggest that you try to learn some before you come. While you are here, you will, of course, have a wonderful opportunity to learn the language and we will also be offering free language courses for our international students.

You will need to be able to read and understand the course texts in English and to clearly follow and understand the discussions in the courses and seminars. In the course of your studies it would be expected that you could also take an active part in discussions as well. On the traditional language proficiency scales a level of at least B2 would be expected.

No, this is the responsibility of the student. Depending on the country, it may be necessary to get a visa beforehand in your own country. For students coming from countries where the visa application takes place in Germany, we will be glad to assist you.

Along with the application form which you will be able to download from our website, you will need to submit the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Letter of Motivation (motivations for choosing to be a Waldorf teacher)
  • Certified academic transcript in English
  • 2 photos

During the first two lessons of the day from Grade 1 to 8 the so called "Main Lesson" is being taught by the Class Teacher. In the beginning the main content of these lessons is learning how to formdraw, write, read and count. Later other subjects are added like Language and Mathematics, History and Geography, Botany and Zoology, Geology and Astronomy as well as the first encounter with the sciences Physics and Chemistry. A special aspect is, that all these subjects are being taught in lesson blocks of three to four weeks.

After Main lesson there are subject lessons such as Foreign Languages, Music, Eurythmy, Physical Education, Handicraft, Woodwork and Gardening.

Most Class teachers, besides teaching Main Lesson, also teach a subject, such as a Foreign Language, Handicraft, Music, Woodwork, Physical Education or Gardening.

In the course of the International Masters Programme you can choose to be trained to teach any of these subjects, preferably if you have had professional training in it(for example BA in English, Physical Education, Music or an apprenticeship to be a tailor, carpenter or gardener). You may also choose a subject after having acquired extensive abilities and skills out of personal interest. In this case the grade levels you'll be certified to teach in will have to be decided on at the end of the programme on an individual basis.
